Warwick
- Warwick Mayor
Avedisian to attend -
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Moderate Party of Rhode Island has announced an upcoming
fundraiser to be held in Warwick on October 10, 2008 at the Aspray
Boathouse in Pawtuxet Park.
Scott Avedisian, the centrist Republican mayor of Warwick, RI,
will attend the event and voice his support for the efforts of the
Moderate Party of RI.
"I believe that the Moderate Party is one of the 'agents
for change' that will help transform Rhode Island from the
polarizing effect of our current political system. And,
although I remain a Republican, I believe that the Moderate Party is
a partner to all of those who seek fundamental change in our
political system," Avedisian said.
Mayor Avedisian has long championed fiscal responsibility,
improved school performance and providing quality Health and Human
Services to those of his constituents who most need them. The
mayor's major policy positions and pragmatic approach to governance
align perfectly with the legislative agenda and political posture of
the Moderate Party of Rhode Island.
"I am pleased to see a growing movement of people advocating
for more centrist governance", says Mayor Avedisian. "My work
as a Rodel Fellow at the Aspen Institute showed me how effective
centrist governance can be. By working on trying to move
people to the middle, we can move away from partisan sound bites and
closer to consensus."
"Rhode Island needs many more skilled politicians like Mayor
Avedisian who want to govern from the political middle", says Ken
Block, Chairman of the Moderate Party of Rhode Island. "Mayor
Avedisian's popularity and success at the voting booth are proof
that voters will gladly embrace politicians who are willing to forgo
the bitter partisan politics of the 'Democrat/Republican'
divide. The majority of voters want and need to be governed
from the center of the political spectrum."
Please join Mayor Avedisian and the Moderate Party of Rhode
Island at the Aspray Boathouse on October 10th from 5:00 to
7:00pm. The Boathouse is located at 2 East View St. in
Pawtuxet Village. It is notable that the Aspray Boathouse is
the headquarters of the Gaspee Days Committee, the group that
commemorates the 1772 burning of the HMS Gaspee. The burning
of the Gaspee pre-dates the Boston Tea Party and is an early example
of Rhode Island citizens rising up against excessive taxation.
The burning of the Gaspee set in motion events that led directly to
the Declaration of Independence.
Tickets are $25/person, and an advanced RSVP would be
greatly appreciated.
Tickets may be purchased at the door, through our web site
